9-1-1 is the emergency telephone
number for the North American Numbering, it is intended for use in emergency
circumstances only (Wikipedia). The emergency circumstances include
criminalities, accidents, and fire. 9-1-1 has been successfully applied in the
United States and Canada. Indonesia has not had this emergency telephone
number. In fact, in 2013 Indonesia had around 100.106 accidents and 342.000 criminalities
happened, one of the biggest in the world. There are four obvious reasons to
apply the emergency telephone number of the same type as 9-1-1 in Indonesia.
First, 9-1-1 is easy to remember. Calling assistances is still difficult
because people do not know the emergency number to call. 9-1-1 is well-known
unique emergency number, easy to remember, and brief, make people facile to
call assistances. Second, 9-1-1 is accessible. People always bring their
cell-phones wherever they are. Cell-phones can call 9-1-1 although they are
locked. Third, 9-1-1 can detect callers’ locations. When callers do not know
where they are, cell-phones will transmit a signal to the nearest cellular
tower. Then the signal will be transmitted to the closest 9-1-1 center,
as determined by the location of the cell tower which receives the incoming
call. The
assistance will reach the location as fast as it can. Fourth, 9-1-1 is
practical and free, because fees are collected by local telephone and wireless
carriers through monthly surcharges on customer telephone bills. Only pushing
9-1-1, callers freely can ask assistances they are needed, include police,
ambulance, and fire. By this emergency telephone number, handling criminality
will be easier, victims are taken care quickly, and police, paramedics, as well
as firefighters’ performances will be maximal. In conclusion, applying 9-1-1
